Brand Profile.

Mezcal Local is an artisanal mezcal brand from Oaxaca, crafted with Espadín agave in San Pablo Villa de Mitla. Its philosophy embraces the idea of being local as feeling at home, blending traditional methods with a contemporary vision. Each bottle is handmade and distilled with fruit, resulting in a smooth, clean mezcal with subtle fruity notes.

Entre Pechos y Gusanos

Between Breasts and Worms //

In collaboration with Mezcal Local, I developed an artistic intervention of their bottle, inspired by the question: What does being local mean to you?

Guided by this theme, I created a series of sketches that helped conceptualize a visual interpretation of the mezcal legend. Throughout the process, I explored various materials and techniques, carefully planning each stage to bring the final piece to life.

The bottle, titled Entre Pechos y Gusanos, was part of the first auction organized by Mezcal Local. The goal of the auction was to raise funds in support of restaurant workers whose livelihoods were impacted by the pandemic.

This piece draws inspiration from the mythical figure of Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of maguey and fertility. According to an ancient version of the legend, Mayahuel had a thousand breasts—symbols of nourishment, abundance, and generosity. From one of them flowed mezcal, a sacred nectar believed to intoxicate not only the body but also the spirit. This feminine and maternal origin story links mezcal to the earth, to creation, and to the act of nurturing.

Interpreting this myth through a personal and symbolic lens, I chose clay as the primary material for its organic, ancestral, and handcrafted qualities. Entre Pechos y Gusanos stands as a visual and tactile offering—a piece that weaves together mythology, identity, and tradition.
